Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026. In short: Samir does not collect your personal data, has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. Here is exactly how it works.

The short version

No account, no sign-up. You can use Samir without giving us any personal information.
No ads, no tracking cookies, no analytics profiles that identify you.
Your data stays on your device. Saved phrases, hotel pins, your checklist and translation history are stored only in your own browser, not on our servers.
We never sell your data — we do not have it to sell.

What is stored on your device

To make Samir useful and fast, some things are saved locally in your browser (never sent to us): your saved & favourite phrases, saved locations for the hotel compass, your packing-checklist progress, a cache of past translations (so repeats are instant and free), and — if you enable it — your own natural-voice API key. You can clear all of this any time by clearing your browser data.

Services Samir connects to

Samir is a free tool that uses trusted third-party services to work. When you use a feature, only the information needed for that feature is sent to the relevant service:

Translation — the text or speech you want translated is sent to translation providers (e.g. Google, MyMemory, Cloudflare AI) to return the translation.
Voice — speech recognition is handled by your browser; spoken audio is processed by the browser’s speech service and is not recorded or stored by us.
Maps & places — when you tap “Use my location”, your approximate coordinates are sent to OpenStreetMap services to find nearby places, and are not stored by us.
Prayer times — your coordinates are sent to the Aladhan service to calculate accurate times.
Currency — live exchange rates are fetched from a public rates service.
News — headlines are fetched from public news feeds.

Each of these providers has its own privacy policy. We only send what is needed to give you the result.

Location

Location is only used when you choose to share it (for nearby places, the hotel compass, prayer times and Qibla). It is used in the moment to give you results and is not stored on our servers. You can deny or revoke location access any time in your browser settings.

Microphone

The microphone is used only while you are actively using voice translation, to convert your speech to text through your browser. We do not record, keep or share your audio.

Affiliate links

Some links (for eSIMs, data or hotels) may be affiliate links, meaning Samir could earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. These help keep Samir free. Clicking them takes you to third-party sites with their own policies.

Children

Samir is a general-audience travel tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
